Biography
Giampaolo Pretto graduated in Composition at the Turin Conservatory in 2009, under Giorgio Colombo Taccani.
In the same year he elaborates a transcription for wind quintet of the Sonata nr. 2 by Debussy (original for viola harp aand flute) and performs it with Quintetto Bibiena in the Great Hall of the Parco della Musica in Rome, arousing considerable interest. Ten years later, in 2019, this versiong is published by the historic Durand publishing company.
His Concerto for flute, cello and strings "Nine rooms", based on texts by the poet Cristina Vezzaro and commissioned by the Accademia di Pinerolo, was first performed in 2013 by Accademia di Pinerolo Strings Orchestra: he and Claudio Pasceri soloists, at the Teatro Sociale of Pinerolo. The piece will be performed again the following year with cellist Enrico Dindo in Pavia, with Solisti di Pavia.
In 2014 he wrote the quartet "A flat", commissioned by the Ex Novo Ensemble of Venice, performing it at the Sale Apollinee of Teatro la Fenice in Venice in December of the same year.
His Concerto for clarinet and chamber orchestra "Per quelli che volano" (For those who fly), was commissioned by the Haydn Orchester of Bolzano, and performed several times in a tour of concerts with Haydn in summer 2016 under his conduction: the soloist was Gervasio Tarragona Valli .
In 2018, commissioned by the UNIMI in Milan, he wrote "Tre d’amore" for chamber orchestra, performed under his baton at the Milan State University in February 2018.
